Streamers around the World

The environment is my nature … and my health!

In 2005, Veolia Environnement conducted an international awareness campaign for children addressing the environment and health.
Primary school students between nine and 11 designed their “streamers”, a flag symbolizing environmental protection, and wrote a short text explaining their thoughts. The streamer from the winner in each class in every country was printed onto flag fabric.
Fluttering in the breeze on June 5, 2005, World Environment Day, the winning streamers were exhibited in the Luxembourg Garden in Paris, before being displayed in many countries.

The official awards ceremony took place in the French Senate in the presence of Senate President Christian Poncelet; Jean Audouze, Vice President of the French National Commission for UNESCO; and Henri Proglio, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Veolia Environnement.

The flags representing the environmental messages from children from approximately 20 countries were then exhibited at the Luxembourg Garden during Sustainable Development week, May 30 – June 5, 2005.

The French National Commission for UNESCO sponsored this initiative, which involved primary school classes in approximately 20 countries, through UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network in particular countries and regions.
